This morning Andrina and I were playing in her room. She went to hug the big teddy bear in the picture below, which was next to her dresser. She actually threw herself on the bear and smacked her forehead against the dresser! It was horrible. I saw it happening but I could not stop it and she started screaming crying! So I picked her up and tried to soothe her while heading downstairs for the icepack in the freezer. I cuddled her and put the icepack on her head and my poor baby started screaming even more! I remembered reading that it is important to use the icepack, even if your child is fighting it. And that is what happened. Andrina screamed and fought me, trying to get the icepack off of her head. And I had to hold her and her arms down to keep it on her, all the while she's screaming. It was so terrible. The worst part was at one point she started saying "mom" while screaming. My poor child thought I was hurting her even though I was telling her it was ok and this was helping her. After a few minutes (that felt like an eternity in hell because my baby was so distraught), I knew it was ok to remove the ice pack. She was sniffling with snot and tears all over. It was so sad. I held her and she and I quietly cuddled. Thankfully the tears and screaming were over with. And there was not even a bump or bruise on her head-thank you God!
With the bear awhile after she bumped her head:

Awhile after all this happened I gave Andrina the now thawed ice pack to hold. She actually started playing with it! I told her to put it on my head, which she did and laughed! Then I took it from her and asked her if it was ok if I put it on her head. She didn't communicate "no" so I gently put it on her head (in a different spot where she bumped herself) and she laughed again! Kids! Now it was all fun and games. So we ended up taking turns putting it on each others head and I told her how if she gets bumped, that we put it where she gets bumped and it does not hurt! That it is ok and it helps her! I think she got it but of course it was not when she was hurt so who knows how it will go in the future if the need arises (hopefully not!).
