Some Success

Andrina woke up for the first time last night around midnight. Since I was still up and I'm the one insisting that she not get milk at night, I decided to go into her room and change her and put her back down. Well, it didn't work. I changed her diaper and put her back in her crib and she started crying. So I rubbed her back a little bit and she was still crying. I had to leave her room with her crying and a few minutes later she was quiet. The she cried again, then was quiet, over and over again for about an hour. So I gave up. I let Tom go into her room to give her a bottle. Which she guzzled down then immediately went to sleep when she finished it. However, when she woke up at 6 a.m., Tom only changed her diaper and she went to sleep. So we've made some progress with only the one nighttime feeding instead of two. We've come to the conclusion that Andrina has been conditioned to being fed at night and it will be difficult to change this but for the next week, she will only get one bottle at night, the first time she wakes up. If she wakes up a second time, she will only get her diaper changed. After one week, we will give up feeding her during the night entirely. Good luck Honey! I know you're a "toddler" now and not a "baby" any more but you certainly still seem like a baby to me most of the time. It's better for you to get more sleep at night and drink your milk during the day.

I would encourage you to try and give up the changing of the diaper too. A lot of kids this age are sleeping through the night anyway and not getting a diaper changed. If you change her diaper, this just stimulates her and wakes her up more. Even though she's going to have a HUGE diaper when she wakes up, she should be fine with it.

Another thing to try is "watering down" her bottle. So let's say she drinks 6 oz of formula. The first week you give her 5oz w/ an oz of water. The next week 4 oz w/ an oz of water. Eventually she's drinking all water and she realizes it is not worth it to get up to simply drink water. Or, if you don't want to go that route, just start reducing her bottle-same principle, first week 5oz instead of 6, then 4 oz instead of 5. Again she'll realize that it's not worth it to get up for a few sips of milk. If she's really picky about getting 6oz exactly (for example) you could go even more gradual w/ 5.5 oz. Both of these are very baby friendly, non aggressive ways of letting her deal with no more bottles in the middle of the night.

Ps. Unless she poos-then you could change the diaper, but w/ just pee the diapers are so absorbant anyway, it's not like she can really feel the wetness of it.
